(Worthy News) – Pastor Joby Martin, founder and lead pastor of Florida’s The Church of Eleven22 reports that his church witnessed a record 1,614 people publicly declare their faith in Jesus through baptism during an annual one-day Gospel event earlier this month, Crosswalk reports. The yearly event took place at Hanna Park Beach in Jacksonville, Florida on May 5.

Noting that thousands of friends and family members joined the church members and baptismal candidates at this year’s event, Martin said 500 more people were baptized this year than last year, when 1126 people were baptized.

“We are a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. Today, we celebrated over 1,600 people proclaiming Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior,” Martin said in a statement. “It doesn’t get much better than that. The church is alive and well, the Spirit of God is on the move and the gospel of Jesus Christ is still changing lives as it has for thousands of years.”

“This gathering represented one of the most significant days in the decade-long history of the church,” The Church of Eleven22 added in a statement.

“The Church of Eleven22 remains steadfast in our commitment to glorify God by surrendering to Jesus, making disciple-making disciples, and transforming communities,” the church added. “Today’s event served as a powerful reminder of the joy that comes from a community unified by a shared faith and joy that can only come from God.”
