(Worthy News) – The board of the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday passed a resolution censuring Iran for its ongoing refusal to cooperate with the agency’s nuclear watchdog inspectors, the Associated Press reports. The resolution was introduced by France, Germany and Britain.
Ruled by a brutal, extremist Islamic regime, Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of international terrorism and it is additionally sworn to the annihilation of Israel: Western leaders and the IAEA have been anxious to ensure Tehran never develops a nuclear bomb.
Nevertheless, despite decades of sanctions, negotiations, deals, and pleadings for it to stop, Tehran has continued to stockpile uranium that has been enriched to near-weapons-grade levels.
In its censure Wednesday, the IAEA called on Iran to allow UN inspectors access to its nuclear sites, and to cooperate with a longstanding investigation into its nuclear intentions, AP reports. While Tehran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, Western powers and the IAEA are convinced the regime intends to build an atomic bomb.
Twenty of the 35-member board at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna voted in favor of the censure, with Russia and China opposing it, AP reports. Twelve members abstained and one did not vote.
IAEA censure resolutions are not binding, they can only send a political and diplomatic message of disapproval.
