From Wilderness Provision to Promised Abundance!

Joshua 5:10-12  Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho. 11  And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day. 12  Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year. 

After crossing the Jordan and being consecrated at Gilgal, Israel did not immediately march into battle. Before Jericho, before strategy, before conquest, God brought them back to worship — they kept the Passover. In the very land of promise, they paused to remember the blood. This reveals the order of God: before you fight for what He has promised, you remember what He has already done. Before inheritance is possessed, redemption is honored. The same God who brought them out of Egypt by the blood of the lamb was now bringing them into the land by His faithfulness, and worship anchored this transition.

They were no longer wanderers sustained by miracles in the wilderness; they were now a people stepping into promise. Yet God would not allow them to move forward without first grounding them in gratitude. The Passover reminded them that everything ahead was built on what He had already accomplished. Then something remarkable happened — the manna stopped. For forty years, heaven had fed them daily. Every morning, provision appeared on the ground– supernatural, consistent, and sustaining. But the moment they ate from the produce of the land, the manna ceased. Wilderness provision ended because promise provision had begun.

God was shifting how they lived. The same God who had provided miraculously in the wilderness was now providing through the land itself. The season had changed, and what once sustained them was no longer needed because something greater had been given. When the promise begins, wilderness provision ends. This is a critical truth for people entering revival. We must not cling to old forms of provision when God is leading us into new dimensions of fulfillment. The manna was never the destination — it was the means to reach it. Holding onto yesterday’s provision can keep us from fully embracing today’s promise.

God was not removing provision — He was upgrading it. The land required participation, stewardship, and maturity. It was no longer about gathering what fell; it was about possessing what had been given. The same God was providing, but in a different way, aligned with their new season. Revival carries this same transition. There are moments when God shifts His people from survival into stewardship, from daily rescue into sustained inheritance, and that transition must be anchored in worship and gratitude, or we will misunderstand what He is doing.

Beloved, do not rush past the place of remembrance. Before you step into greater promise, return to the Lamb and honor what God has already done. Let gratitude anchor your heart as God shifts you into new seasons of provision. If something familiar begins to cease, do not fear — it may be the sign that promise has begun. Revival will be carried by those who recognize the season they are in, release what was for the wilderness, and embrace what God is now providing. The God who sustained you before is now leading you into fullness — step into it with worship, and you will walk in everything He has prepared.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul reveals the prophetic nature of Shabbat and the Biblical Feasts as “shadows of things to come”, whose substance is the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). My study of the feasts therefore seeks to discover their relevance to the Lord, His identity, work, and purpose for my life in relationship to Him.

A few years ago, I was in a debate with an atheist who had a legal background, and the Lord gave me a revelation about the tactics of the enemy. At Yeshua’s first coming, his tactic was to destroy the infant before He could grow up; [Revelation 12:4-5]. After the Lord’s death and resurrection, Satan continued his direct assault by attacking the church through persecution, which lasted through the first three centuries. The tactics of the enemy were to destroy any “eyewitnesses” of God’s goodness.

An interesting parallel exists between these two passages of scripture: Isaiah 53:9 and Acts 3:15. Isaiah renders the “death” of the messiah in the plural form, “deaths” (“motav”). Acts renders the life of the Prince of Life as “lives” (“chaim”). Some scholars suggest that the plurality of the word death indicates a violent death this servant would suffer, and that making the noun plural is a way of emphasizing the terrible intensity of his experience. Jewish counter-missionaries suggest that the “death” in plural shows that the suffering servant is not an individual man, but a group of people, specifically the nation of Israel, thus denying that the passage refers to an individual messianic figure.

Proverbs says the “highway of the upright is to depart from evil”. It’s a highway — a way of life so to speak. And this proverb coincides with the central teaching of Yeshua (Jesus) — “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” What does it mean to repent? The Greek Word is “metanoia” which simply means to change your mind about sin or to depart from evil.

D.L. Moody has been influential in my personal life as I study and read about his life and ministry in the 1800’s. I remember reading a story about how D.L. Moody was preparing to lead a revival throughout England to which an elderly pastor protested and said, “Why do we need this ‘Mr. Moody’? He’s uneducated, inexperienced, etc. Who does he think he is anyway? Does he think he has a monopoly on the Holy Spirit?”

If these really are the “Days of Noah,” we would expect to see a world filled with increasing violence. The Hebrew for “violence” is , by coincidence, the name of the terrorist organization Israel has been fighting for decades. And simply perusing my news briefs in recent years gives abundant evidence for the conclusion that this terrible season is well underway. Noah’s day was filled with violence and also false witness, which is a second meaning for the word “Hamas” [e.g., ; ]; violence and lies, then and now…

As Israel braces for retaliation from Iran, Hezbollah, and its terrorist proxies following the assassinations of two terrorist leaders in Tehran and Beirut last week, many are praying through these tense times as Tisha B’Av begins tonight (Monday night).

Tonight, Jewish people around the world will mourn through Tisha B’Av, the ninth day of the fifth month on the Hebrew calendar. This day has been marked by numerous tragic events throughout history. It began with the spies returned with an evil report of Canaan, the Promised Land, as recounted in Numbers 13 and 14. This day marks the destruction of both the First and Second Temples, which occurred on the same date, separated by hundreds of years. The Crusades were launched on Tisha B’Av in 1095. In 1290, Jews were expelled from England, and in 1492, they were expelled again from Spain and Portugal on this very day. In the modern era, World War I began on the 9th of Av, and the call for the “Final Solution,” which led to the Holocaust, was announced on this date. To say that Tisha B’Av commemorates a series of horrific events is an understatement.
